of the developments for us from los angeles this afternoon. and again, we're waiting for that official announcement, john. but what are we hearing in terms of a dollar amount that's going to be offered? >> well, as you say, the "los angeles times" is reporting that it's going to be about $1 million. this is a joint fund put up by the city of los angeles, the city of riverside, where a policeman was killed on thursday, and the city of irvine, where two people, the first victims were believed to have been killed a week ago today. this money is coming from government organizations, from police law enforcement, from private donors, from corporate donors in the city, these cities. they say they've raised about half of the $1 million goal, but they sdpoekt gexpect to get tha million to put up for a reward for the information leading to the arrest and capture of dorner. the search is going on. the most visible part of the search up in big bear lake in the san bernardino mountains. very snowy up there right now. the san bernardino sheriff says they have about 25 officers out today supported by a helicopter

: a california fish and wildlife official tells us they believe dorner was driving a stolen car when he shot at two of their wardens as he passed them, damaging their vehicle. others in this area also crossed dorner's path. it was in this group of houses that dorner at one point encountered a couple cleaning one of the houses. he tied them up and stole their car. this was right across the street from one of the law enforcement command posts and a very popular ski resort where people are still feeling the anxiety over what happened. at bear mountain resort, where hundreds of skiers and snowboarders gather every day, one of the managers says people had been living in fear for days knowing that dorner was in the area. >> some of the employees that work around here, they were feeling the vibration. it was scaring them. they had their guns loaded sleeping -- you know, sleeping with their guns. >> reporter: kaitlyn had come to spend her 17th birthday on the slopes just as the news broke that dorner was moving close by. >> i found out when my mom called me crying coming to get me. i don't know. it

was telling us, this idea that there could be hostages in the cabin changed the dynamic for the law enforcement officers surrounding the cabin. let's listen in. >> i have a very small amount of information i can provide to you from what is happening up in san bernardino county right now. this information is from the san bernardino sheriff's office. let me put a copy on it. this is very preliminary information. today at about 12:22 p.m., san bernardino sheriffs were in the hunt for christopher dorner in the big bear area. they received a call of a stolen vehicle in the 1200 block of club view drive. when they responded, they received information from the person reporting that this stolen vehicle was stolen by an individual that appeared to be very similar to christopher dorner. immediately conducted a ground and an air search for this vehicle and they were able to locate it at highway 38 and glass road. where the suspect in the vehicle fled into the force. shortly thereafter, this individual barricaded himself in one of the cabins and exchange of gunfire occurred. during that exchan
